Keep your sex toys clean and hygienic

Investing in a good toy cleaner is the way to go, even if you are not sharing your toys you still need to clean them after each use as the bacteria left on them can be harmful not only to your sex toy but also to you. The most common cause of infection during playtime is unsterilized toys, not to mention other nasty infections you are exposing yourself to if you do not use the correct cleaning products.

If you want to be extra safe try washing your toys before use as well. Antibacterial toy cleaner is a must for those toys that can’t be washed with soap and water. Always refer to your toys package details to see which toy cleaner works best for the material of your toy.

Sex Toy Hygiene Tips:

Silicone, glass, stainless steel, or wood: Use mild soap and a damp cloth to wipe the toy clean.

Silicone, Pyrex, stainless steel, or stone: For a deeper clean, place it in boiling water for eight to 10 minutes, or run it through the dishwasher without soap.

Cyberskin: Use only a little soap and warm water to clean it. Too much scuffing can damage the sensitive material.

Hard plastic, elastomer, thermoplastic elastomer (TPR), or jelly rubber: These porous materials can still contain bacteria and STDs after washing with soap and water. Please do be advised to sterilise well after sharing these types of toys.

When washing your toys with soap use a mild, unscented hand or dish soap, don’t go with the anti-bacterial option as these may leave a harmful residue. Do keep in mind you need to clean them after use as well and keep them sterilised, OhGee has a wide range of toy cleaners suited for every type of toy and that are 100 percent body safe.

Here are also a few tips on keeping your sex toy in top condition:

  • Keep your sex toys in a safe place to preserve them, most sex toys do come with their own bag. You do want to avoid Tupperware or plastic bags as chemicals can leach into your sex toys over an extended period.
  • Take your batteries out of your vibrator when not in use as leaving them in can corrode the toy and drain the battery life.

Remember to take good care of the sex toys so that they can, in turn, take good care of you.

Sadly, even the best sex toys don't last forever. "If the motor gets louder, it's a sign that the toy is getting to the end or if the charge isn't lasting as long, also look out for seams coming apart or pockmarks in your silicone toys, since that means it's no longer nonporous. RIP.
